Our Initiative
The Village Recovery Society will establish a dedicated sober men's second stage house and integrated transportation service to bridge the gap between treatment and independent living in the Comox Valley. This project provides a strictly drug-free residence combined with a specialized shuttle program to ensure residents can consistently reach medical, supportive recovery and housing search appointments. By removing the dual barriers of unstable housing and lack of mobility, we empower men to maintain their sobriety, and secure housing, and healthy connections. We see on a daily basis, men who manage to get into recovery and treatment, only to relapse to homelessness and drug use, due to the lack of second stage housing.
The Village Sober House
A strictly drug and alcohol-free transitional residence for men who have completed detox or treatment but lack safe housing. This home provides the 'missing link' between medical treatment and independent living.
Access and mobility shuttle
A dedicated transportation service managed by a peer support worker who also serves on The Village board to ensure direct oversight and accountability. This service ensures that selected residents can consistently attend appointments with their Village addiction physician, other health care providers, ACT/ICMT teams, social workers, counselors, the gym, and support groups. Beyond simple transport, this service allows our team to collect data on service access barriers, providing the research needed to demonstrate how our model fixes the 'discharge gap' - the dangerous period where men are often released from treatment into the community with no physical connection to their support network.
Client Demographics
We will serve adult men (19+) in the Comox Valley who are currently in recovery but are unhoused or at high risk of losing their housing. Our target demographic is individuals who are committed to sobriety but are trapped in a cycle of homelessness because they cannot find a 'clean living' environment or lack the transportation needed to maintain their recovery and housing plans. Second stage and subsidized housing for men in the Comox Valley is non-existent whereas women have several housing options. Serving equity deserving groups: This initiative directly serves several equity deserving populations, specifically persons with disabilities from substance use and mental health disorders. These individuals are frequently marginalized and 'screened out' of standard housing due to their high support means and the stigma associated with addiction. Peer-led care: by employing a project lead with lived experience, we provide a culturally safe, low barrier environment where residents feel understood rather than judged.

Under the medical direction of our society's founder, an addiction physician, we ensure that men who traditionally face barriers to healthcare receive prioritized, consistent medical support and care.
Removing barriers
Our transportation pillar ensures that physical mobility and poverty do not prevent equity deserving individuals from accessing the vital social and health services they are entitled to.
The Village Recovery Society is committed to creating a measurable 'proof of concept.' We will collect anonymous data on resident stability, medical appointment attendance via our shuttle, health outcomes and long-term recovery rates. This data will be made available to local government and health authorities to demonstrate the efficacy of our peer-led, medical integration model for future scaling.
